Run AI agents locally on your Mac with persistent memory, autonomous execution, and 20+ native plugins.
Osaurus is a free, open-source macOS app that serves as a unified layer between you and any AI model, whether local or cloud-based. Built natively in Swift for Apple Silicon, it lets you run models like Llama, Qwen, and Gemma directly on your Mac while also connecting to OpenAI, Anthropic, and other cloud providers. Each agent gets its own memory, tools, and personality. A 4-layer memory system remembers context across conversations, and a sandboxed Linux VM lets agents execute real code safely. Your data stays encrypted on your machine unless you explicitly choose otherwise.
Yes. Osaurus is completely free and open source under the MIT license. There are no paid tiers, usage limits, or subscriptions. The only costs you might incur are API fees if you choose to connect cloud providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, which you pay directly to those providers.
You need a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 chip or newer) running macOS 15.5 or later. For running local AI models, 64GB of unified memory is the recommended minimum. Smaller models can run on less RAM, but larger models may require 128GB. Intel Macs are not supported.
Yes. Osaurus works fully offline with local models. You can download models from Hugging Face while connected, then use them without any internet access. Cloud model features obviously require connectivity.
Your data is encrypted at rest and signed at every boundary. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you explicitly choose a cloud provider. When you do use cloud models, an on-device privacy filter scans for sensitive information like names, emails, and account numbers before sending. If the filter detects anything that slipped through scrubbing, the request is blocked.
Osaurus supports a wide range of models through Apple's MLX framework, including Llama, Qwen, Gemma, Mistral, and more. Osaurus maintains a curated model library on Hugging Face with optimized quantizations for Apple Silicon.
While Ollama and LM Studio focus primarily on running local models, Osaurus adds persistent memory across conversations, customizable agents with their own tools and personalities, 20+ native macOS plugins, sandboxed code execution, privacy filtering for cloud requests, and remote access via secure tunnels. It's designed as a full AI operating layer rather than just a model runner.
Osaurus functions as a full Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, meaning any MCP-compatible client can connect to it and access your configured tools and plugins. This makes Osaurus interoperable with the broader ecosystem of AI tools that support the MCP standard.
Yes. The Relay feature lets you expose local agents to the internet through secure WebSocket tunnels. You can interact with your home-based AI tools and private memory from any remote device without configuring port forwarding or opening firewall ports.
